Among one of the best types of firewood to burn, oak burns hot and long and gives a great heat output. It can be difficult to split due to the grain being more uneven and takes longer to dry due to the denseness of the grain.
Most species of Oak are dark coloured. The logs can be irregular and jagged in places and are heavier as a result of the length of time it takes to grow. This dense characteristic also makes it unsuitable for starting most fires, instead being used once the fire is well established to sustain the heat output.

I've tried all the different wood types that RL sell and oak is definitely a favourite. It burns slow and hot due to its density, and is therefore worth the extra you pay compared to ash or the much faster (but lovely smelling) birch.
I've found log size (diameter) can vary a little from load to load; this latest load is split a little too small for my liking - I prefer some really big logs in the mix but most of them this time are narrower than I'd like. So my suggestion to RL is: try to mix up the log sizes a little more in each bag (or each load).
However - just seems to be the luck of the draw with RD and overall I'd highly recommend both their prodcuts and their service.

Brilliant! Really does burn slowly and steadily- the logs glow and they radiate heat that lasts for ages!

Solid, lovely quality wood. Burns long and slow and ultra-hot after the birch has established the fire. One log keeps us going for ages.

These are solid, dry logs that burn slowly with a glowing core. Beautiful.
