Sudden Stratospheric Warming Polar Vortex

As we approach the end of winter, it's important to keep an eye on weather patterns that could potentially affect our wood supply. One such weather pattern is sudden stratospheric warming (SSW) and its impact on the polar vortex.

SSW is a meteorological event that occurs when the temperature in the stratosphere above the Arctic suddenly increases, disrupting the polar vortex and causing cold air to move southward. This can lead to colder temperatures and harsher winters in the Northern Hemisphere, including the UK.

According to recent articles, there have been indications of an SSW event in the coming weeks, which could potentially impact the UK. However, the exact impact is uncertain and can vary depending on a number of factors.

While we want to assure our customers that we currently have plenty of wood in stock, we recommend that they order early to avoid any potential rush in case the weather pattern does affect our supply.

It's worth noting that SSW events and their impact on the polar vortex are not uncommon, but their frequency and severity can vary. In fact, there have been several SSW events in the past decade, with the most recent one occurring in 2021.

In Scotland, SSW events have been known to cause colder temperatures and harsher winters, with the most notable event occurring in 2010. However, the impact can vary depending on the specific location and other weather patterns at play.

At reservoir logs, we want to ensure that our customers have a reliable and steady supply of wood, even in the face of potential weather disruptions. By ordering early, our customers can rest assured that they will have the wood they need to keep warm and comfortable throughout the winter season.

Here are some helpful links to keep track of SSW and its impact on the polar vortex:
