Alder is a commercial crop and a sustainable hardwood and best for value

Alder catches more slowly and builds to a good flame.

It is a staple all year-round sustainable firewood preferred by the colder Baltic regions for it's easy of handling and consistency.

There are those who refer to Alder as a softwood, however it is classified by The Forestry Commission as a hardwood.

It is true that it does burns faster than broadleaf hardwoods such as Ash and Oak but it burns nowhere near as fast as softwoods such as pine, fir and spruce.

Alder is sustainable as it is grown commercially for the purpose of harvesting. An alder forest can be ready for harvest in approx. 30-40 years and the trees grown high into the northern hemisphere.
